FAQs

A hair transplant moves healthy hair follicles from the donor area, usually the back and sides of the scalp, to areas where the hair has thinned, such as the hairline or crown. It uses your own hair. The transplanted hairs usually keep the characteristics of the donor area. Your doctor checks your donor area and the pattern of your hair loss at consultation before advising whether a transplant suits you.

Eugenix performs Direct Hair Transplant (DHT) only. DHT is a modified FUE technique described by our Co-Founders in their 2013 research paper. The lead surgeon makes all the slits first, then grafts are extracted and implanted at the same time. Grafts stay outside the body for under 30 minutes with Direct Hair Transplant, compared to 3 to 6 hours with conventional FUE.

Most people return to work in about 7 days, or take 5 to 7 days off if they meet clients or the public. Gentle walking, office work and household tasks can resume the next day. Your first head wash is on Day 7, and gym, yoga and heavy exercise can resume after 7 days. Transplanted hairs shed between 30 and 90 days, and new growth starts around month 4.

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure, done under local anaesthesia as a day procedure, so like any surgery it carries some risk. Blood tests and a medical check before surgery confirm that you are fit for it. Common after-effects such as mild swelling, tenderness and scabs are temporary and usually settle within 7 to 10 days. Your doctor explains the risks and aftercare to you in person.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so the area being treated is numbed before work begins. After the procedure, any discomfort is managed with pain relief as prescribed by the Eugenix team, who explain your medicines and aftercare in person before you go home. Mild swelling and tenderness in the first days are normal and settle on their own.

Before surgery, tell your doctor about every medicine and supplement you take, and stop any of them only on your doctor’s advice. Avoid alcohol and smoking for a week, and wear a shirt that buttons at the front on the day. After surgery, sleep with your head raised, do not scratch or pick the scabs, keep your scalp out of strong sun and follow the washing routine you are given.

In hair loss, DHT can mean two things. Dihydrotestosterone is a hormone linked to pattern hair loss: in people who are sensitive to it, hair follicles slowly become smaller. Direct Hair Transplant (DHT) is the technique Eugenix performs, a modified FUE technique described by our Co-Founders in their 2013 research paper. Grafts stay outside the body for under 30 minutes, compared to 3 to 6 hours with conventional FUE.

A corrective hair transplant improves the result of an earlier transplant. Common reasons are an unnatural or harsh hairline, patchy density, hair growing at the wrong angle, or visible scars from strip (FUT) surgery or an earlier FUE. The surgeon first checks the previous work and how much donor hair is left, then plans the correction, which may include redesigning the hairline, adding density or placing grafts into scars.

Yes, for some women. Female hair loss often follows a different pattern from men’s, so the doctor first looks for medical or hormonal causes. Women who may be suitable include those with female pattern hair loss and a stable donor area, a naturally high hairline, hair loss from tight hairstyles (traction alopecia), or scars from an injury or surgery. Partial-shave or no-shave options may be possible.

No clinic can guarantee the result of a hair transplant. Results depend on your donor area, hair characteristics, the extent of your hair loss and how it progresses. At consultation, the doctor explains what your donor area can provide and plans for natural-looking results. Visible results come at Month 6 to 8, and full results at 10 to 12 months (12 to 15 months for the crown).
